Please Give

Unemployment is the highest it has been in quite some time and in many homes it's not just one person unemployed but both spouses. Because of this many families have decisions to make....
Pay the bills or buy Holiday gifts for their kids and of course electricity and mortgage comes first.

Many kids will not be getting gifts from Santa this year and as a parent, how do you explain to your little one's why Santa didn't come.

Long story short, next time you are in Walmart, Target, CVS, please see it in your heart to buy a small toy to donate to toys for tots, your local church etc. Put yourself in these people's shoes....

Thank you for reading.

Happy Festivus!

Happy Holidays

It has been some time since I have been on here. Gosh where does the time go.

Let me start off by saying....Dolphins Win...Dolphins Win......As some of you know I am a Die Hard Dolphins Fan, and to see them win by 1 point....Wow.

Let me follow up by stating that the Fins will still go 9&7 or perhaps 8&8 and will squeak into the playoffs losing in the first round or not even make it but heck of course can't I gloat for a moment!?

As many of you know, my contract at CeQur has ended. It was a great experience and I can't say enough about the staff!! Thank you to everyone. I know our paths will cross again

As the new year comes upon us, I find myself looking for the next great opportunity. What do I want to do when I grow up? Well, I enjoy Business Development within the Life Sciences Sector, learning about new technologies, products etc and of course making new friendships along the way.

I know in my heart 2010 will be a great year, both personally as well as professionally. New heights will be hit and new ventures will be explored.

I wish each and every one of you a Happy Holiday and Wonderful New Year.

I have entered Oz

Well after many years as a successful agency recruiter I have now been blessed with having the opportunity to work for a Medical Device Manufacturer, start-up no less.

As an agency recruiter there is so much one can be privy to, gathering information via phone and an occasional on site visit but being on the inside or shall I say, having the ability to look "behind the Curtain of Oz" has been fantastic. There is nothing better than first hand experience of product development, quality systems, and the overall day to day operations of a company. Thus far it has been a phenomenal ride!

Stay Tuned, with luck, I will not be going back to Kansas!

Be well!!!

Updates - time to rant

Hi All,

Been some time since I last updated as I hope this all finds you well. Let's get the negative right out of the way and end on a good note!

Had a "scheduled" 11:00 am interview in Brockton with a Billion Dollar service based company that has been listed in Fortune Magazine multiple years for being "the most admired company". Long story short I drive 75 miles each way and arrive shortly before 11 am greeted by the receptionist who signs me in and disappears. Time passes and before I know it, it is 12 and everyone is breaking for lunch. An employee asks what I am there for as I tell him an 11 am interview with Chris the DM. Gentleman says, unfortunately he is in meetings all day and would I want to come back later? I nicely declined stating I just drove from Sturbridge and if Chris is in his CT office to give me a call.

I get home and contact HR asking if I was not put on the schedule to which I was told, Chris didn't know his meeting was going to run long. OK, I understand this but no one could come out and tell me this while I was in the waiting room? Here we are a week later and I still have not heard a peep from the company. Now I know there are alot of people on the market but is this the proper way to treat a potential employee?

Onto more positive things...

The economy seems to be picking up as more and more people I know are finding positions both in their fields and at a comfortable salary.

And lastly, can't believe my kids are now 5 & 2 with Birthdays on the 22nd and 30th of April....Boy how time flies....

Be well and Make it a Great day!

Relationship Building - Thing of the Past??

We are now on month 2 of unemployment and there has definitely been some activity regarding interviews, 2nd interviews etc but I question, is building relationships a thing of the past?

Some of the interviews I have had were in a Business Development/Sales capacity but the basis was, sign up a new client and transition the business to a "customer service liasion" then move on to your next new account. Granted I am not against this at all but where is the true relationship building aspect of the business?

One of the many great things I loved about Business Development/recruitment was building relationships with great people out there. Yes it is part of the business and predominatly how I got paid but I enjoyed making friends out of it. I truly enjoyed learning about what college Jim's kids were going to College or how Mary's kids did in soccer this past weekend or what car you just bought. I loved this!!

And it is obvious when candidates, excuse me, friends I have made in this business are tracking me down asking how I am doing regarding my search, how my wife is handling this etc etc. Thank You Thank You!

This is my blog and of course names have been changed to protect the innocent.

Humbling Experience

Well it has been a few weeks now and let me say it has been quite humbling. Now being on the other side and having to deal with recruiters. Instead of me asking the questions.....What are you looking for in your next job opportunity, commute range, salary etc, I am now the one providing these answers. Funny how things come around.

And the one thing I realized...I was really damn good at what I did! It's obvious as there are alot of colleagues, friends etc that have heard the news and have tracked me down offering any and all assistance. To all of you, THANK YOU!

Recruiter Interactions I have come across:

" I have a great opportunity in Burlington for you..." Interesting I live in Sturbridge.....NEXT!

Shawn: Can you tell me a little about your client?
Recruiter: "I really don't know much, let me send you their website"

Recruiter - I have a great Data Processing position for you, pays $12 hr
Shawn - Huh? Next.........

Recruiter Call - I have a great job for you doing X, I'll send you the job description and let me know what you think. Never once asking me the important questions of salary, commute etc etc.

It just baffles me as to how these recruiters/agencies stay in business. And worse, these are the idiots that tarnish the my reputation and allot of the other great recruiters out there.

Anyway keep in touch, all the best and of course Make it a Great Week!

Part of the RIF Fraternity

Well unfortunately I am now part of the RIF Fraternity. Last Friday due to a cost cutting initiative I as well as 2 others were laid off from Prestige Scientific.

Am I upset? Sure!

Do I understand why it was done? Certainly!

Do I agree with it? Hell no but life goes on.

It was a great run with Prestige Scientific, 2 1/2 yrs. I have made some great friends that I will continue to stay in touch with; I hope!

I refuse to be a statistic and will land on my feet very quick. I know I will. The one thing recruiting has shown me is to be Pro Active/ a Hunter. Heck in this marketplace you have to be.

If anyone reading this knows of any HR/Recruitment positions or Ideally Business Development/Sales feel free to contact me directly.

All the Best and of course Make It a Great Day
